Alone in the Dark 2024 (PC) Review

I've been waiting a long time for this, especially as a fan of H.P. Lovecraft. With this in mind, I already was aware of how the entire series was supposed to begin with his work until Chaosium pulled the plug on that plan, leaving that original 1992 title breathing the mythos in all but name. So when we saw this remake announced I zeroed in and decided to start making my way through the entire series.

And I will admit, I can not recommend playing most of it, but was it worth the pain to reach where we are now? Honestly, yes! I would not tell you to do as I did (most of the franchise is NOT worth your time and this being a remake does no need them) but this game... this one right here... is something special. Alone in the Dark 2 (PC) Review

After completing the original Alone in the Dark, I was expecting more of the same this time around. That is not a bad thing however, as I would describe the first title as an aged classic: it shows it's age, but the game underneath the creaks and cracks is still as good as ever and something anyone interested in the game history should give a while. But this would prove both true and false at the same time. The game is more of the same mechanics, but trying to support a style of game that just doesn't match that.

Alone in the Dark 1 (PC) Review

This has been yet another franchise I have been waiting way too long to get into it, if not without good reason. To be honest, I am known for hating tank controls. Seriously, if a game uses fixed cameras and pushing up on the controls made your character go in the direction they are facing rather then up or away from the camera, I bowed out. But I always had an interest in this franchise despite that. It's direct connection to the works of H.P. Lovecraft always made it stand out to me, so when a remake of the original was announced, I decided that was the sign to start moving through the franchise. So I took the time to start my adventures with Edward Carnby.

Now before we begin, this entry surprised me by the fact that it did not ship alone. When I fist loaded it up, I was offered a menu with two games: Alone in the Dark and Jack in the Dark, requiring me to split this review between them. Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition (PC) Review

This is not the first time I have played this game. In fact, not only is the first time I played also here on this very site, but it was the first game I ever played on the ill-fated WiiU. And back then, I absolutely loved it, even as I had some serious issues with it on a technical level. But over time looking back, I found myself disappointed with the support the game (and console in general) received. While other platforms had DLC campaigns to extend the game itself, they were never even offered to Nintendo's system.

But then the Humble Bundle came through and suddenly I found myself with not only the PC release, but the "Deathinitive edition" containing technical updates, game balance updates, and most importantly, all three DLC campaigns. Coming back was inevitability.... but was it worth the time?

Titan Quest: Anniversary Edition (PC) Review

The second game we finished during Extra Life this year, this was another one that was a long time coming. In fact I’ve had this in my steam backlog so long, I was given this version as a free upgrade when it released and it reminded me it was there. But during the 100 Days of gaming, the dice chose this, so I started it up for the first time. Almost 70 hours later, I am glad I did.
