It has been a LONG time since I played a Deponia game. Back then I had not yet reached a point of giving series I was in the middle of priority to continue, and to be fair, I'm honestly not 100% sure I would have had I been in those early days. But that did not mean a sequel would be bad... would it? Would it? Well... yes and... no.... kinda... you know what? This time, it actually is kinda complicated.
Kraven Manor (PC) Review
I remember when this game first grabbed my attention. At the time, youtube had a lot of people in the gaming scene now that were only starting to become popular and of coarse horror games became a focal point. This is how it drew my attention... and how this game did as well. One of these youtubers played it long enough to show the way you can literally change how the mansion is laid out, and it was too intriguing for me to watch any further since it was going on my wishlist. I would pick it up later on a steam sale... only for it to sit on my backlog for years... long enough in fact for it to go completely free before I played it. Oh well, my fault there, but don't you miss out. Horror fans, come on in and enjoy.
A Hat in Time (PC) Review
I honestly can not remember when this game entered my library. If I had to hazard a guess, it would have been back when I was subscribed to Humble Bundle and decided "yeah this game could be fun." Unfortunately, while the themes indeed were, the game under it just fell short.
The Blackwell Epiphany (PC) Review
And here we are at the end of the line with our dynamic ghost-saving heroes' final adventure. I will admit I've been looking forward to seeing how it all turned out, and really I was not disappointed. Come on in and lets talk.
Severed Steel (PC) Review
This is not a game I would have normally picked up, and if Epic wasn't giving it away I probably would never have played it. It just never showed me a hint of a direction or reason that would draw me in. But as a free game to deviate a bit? I've followed that path before and even found some fun on the way. This time though? Well I can't deny quality when I see it, but this one just isn't for me.
The Blackwell Deception (PC) Review
And now the initial set is complete. A long ways ago, I bought this as part of a 4-game pack with the 3 preceding titles and as of now, I have finished the pack off. So how was this last entry? Honestly pretty good, if not the best it had to offer. Still come on in and lets talk.
Blackwell Convergence (PC) Review
Today we continue the Blackwell saga, and I have to admit, what started as something I was luke-warm about has over time become a better and better series. So seeing it cycle back to an active game was already a good thing... and then I played it and smiled just that bit more...
Only If (PC) Review
Blackwell Unbound (PC) Review
Today we continue with a series of point and click games I've had in my library for a while. And while the first game was admittedly disappointing for everything I had heard, the devs appeared to learn from their mistakes and this is a much better game for it.
Ziggurat (PC) Review
This game faked me out. When I bought the game, I expected a short boomer-shooter made by a small team. A fun little division to be sure. What I got was a bit more then that, and something a bit out of my wheelhouse, but something I had a lot of fun playing.
To The Moon (PC) Review
This was supposed to be an indie darling, loved by everyone. So when the dice chose it, I was happy to give it a shot. It did not feature controller support on it's store page, but it felt like something a controller would be best for so I was ready to do my usual tricks to make it work... only I didn't need to. Happily surprised to see native, support, I settled into my couch for some much needed relaxation. No, I did not expect a game with much gameplay. After all, that is now why this game is so well loved. But I expected to relax, take in a nice story for a few days, and have a descent time of it. I did not expect a broken mess to ruin the game in such a way that research not only showed fairly common, but blind luck was the only solution to get around it. Unacceptable.
The Blackwell Legacy (PC) Review
Another game that's been a long time coming. Years ago, I picked up the pack of games on a sale since I have always enjoyed the point & click genre and the series has a reputation as a particularly good set of them. Right now, I'm not so sure they will live up to it.
Coldside (PC) Review
When I saw the trailer for this game, it had my attention. When I read further to find out it was inspired by the SCP project, I threw it on my wishlist in Steam. And last year as part of the winter sale, I picked it up for my backlog. And like The Old Man, it refused to stay contained for too long. And also like that creature, encountering it at first had me nervous that I had made a terrible mistake considering it doesn't have a real title screen (why there is no title picture for this review) and the menu's language selection using non-English characters. But unlike that particular SCP, this first impression proved very incorrect and I'm happy it visited my gaming time.
Eight (PC) Review
There is something to be said for bad games. Occasionally playing one will make you appreciate the good ones even more. I can agree with that and from time to time, can look at something I played and while it isn't good it reminds me just how good other games were. I could point to several games I reviewed on this site that apply here, thinking fondly of games that just did what they tried better. This... this was a bridge too far and is arguably one of the worst games I have ever played this side of it not being straight up broken. Avoid this game at all costs.
Perfect Vermin (PC) Review
This was a breath of fresh air! Short, sweet, fun as hell, and still managing to have one hell of a great sucker-punch, and all for the price of free? How can I not say to step inside and have a look at it?
The Witness (PC) Review
Once again we are dealing with a game added to my backlog via my time subscribed to the Humble Bundle. In this case I was interested to see this as the early game in the month since all the buzz around it had my curiosity, but I wasn't ready to pick it up. Let me just say I'm glad that's how I got it because there is no way in HELL it's worth the asking price... and that the developer thinks it is is just the first hint of how up his own ass this developer must have been when making this. Let's step inside.
Super Amazing Wagon Adventure (PC) Review
Not every game worth playing is a huge cinematic AAA experience or an RPG game you will spend dozens (and maybe hundreds) of hours completing. Sometimes something much smaller and much more experimental falls in your lap and just begs to be looked into. And when you see one that takes it's inspiration from Oregon Trail and promises to go absolutely insane, you take a second look.
2000 to 1: a Space Felony (PC) Review
Curiosity is a powerful drug. And with a name like this showing up one day in the Humble Bundle, how could I not be curious about it? Still it could not outshine what I was playing at the time, so it went into the backlog for a couple years. But among my online groups it turns out I was not the only one curious about this title... so let's see what the hell is going on.
Scanner Sombre (PC) Review
And once again, we finish another game picked up by the monthly bundle. At the time, I saw the trailer and while I wasn't entirely sure what to make of it, I knew it looked absolutely GORGEOUS. It had a hint of fear, suggested heavy exploration, but all in a technicolor word we could only partly see but managed to look hauntingly and achingly beautiful.
But does the game live up to that first impression? Let's find out.
Master Reboot (PC) Review
I remember when this game came out. At the time it looked interesting for being a horror inside a digital world and promising to be something completely different. I picked it up on a summer sale and this year as part of the 100 Days of Gaming for Extra Life, the game came up. Did I enjoy it? Yeah, I did… but I’m not sure it was as good as I expected it to be. Come on in.
