Doorways: Old Prototype (PC) Review

And we finally have reached a point where in order to show off something new for Extra Life over the weekend, I had to roll the dice over my backlog. It has been a while, but the dice were kind and offered an handful of titles that looked pretty good for the most part. And when this one came up, I was intrigued. After all, I do still have to play the main games, so a little window into what's to ultimately come sounded pretty good. Well the window was certainly small... but through it I can see some real potential.

Kraven Manor (PC) Review

I remember when this game first grabbed my attention. At the time, youtube had a lot of people in the gaming scene now that were only starting to become popular and of coarse horror games became a focal point. This is how it drew my attention... and how this game did as well. One of these youtubers played it long enough to show the way you can literally change how the mansion is laid out, and it was too intriguing for me to watch any further since it was going on my wishlist. I would pick it up later on a steam sale... only for it to sit on my backlog for years... long enough in fact for it to go completely free before I played it. Oh well, my fault there, but don't you miss out. Horror fans, come on in and enjoy.

Serena (PC) Review

Once again we find ourselves looking over a one-off game shown off for Extra-Life. Designed to be a short atmospheric experience, I wasn't expecting a lot out of it, but I was wrong. What it is meant to do, it is a masterpiece at, and I am REALLY glad I walked into this gut-punch of an experience.

Infested (PC) Review

My Dad introduced me to computers at a very young age. I was four when he sat me in front of his Texas Instruments computer (a TI/4A-99 if you want specific) and set me on the path of technology. Computers called me and I fell in love with it. But I would find gaming as well as general use when my brother and I got our first console (a NES) a few years later. And I would get into Shadowgate on there... the first game to creep me out. But in the same spirit it was also one of the first two games I ever put in the resolve to finish.

Apparently I was not the only one effected by the game, however, as while following a raid on twitch, I found someone playing this game. Unfortunately I have had to walk away from the channel (one of the very few times I have ever felt like would ban me if I said what I legitimately wanted to say), but with a game name, I went hunting and found out the game was not only was the game readily available, it was also free. I downloaded it on the spot. Now we finally got to play... and I'm so glad I did.

The Alchemist's House (PC) Review

Now here was a title that looked interesting, and for the low low price of free, how could I not put it in the backlog at least. But when the dice called it up, I gave it a closer look and found the game's reputation to be lacking. So I came in expecting some jank... and jank I got! But not nearly as bad as I expected. Step inside.

Perfect Vermin (PC) Review

This was a breath of fresh air! Short, sweet, fun as hell, and still managing to have one hell of a great sucker-punch, and all for the price of free? How can I not say to step inside and have a look at it?

Red Trigger (PC) Review

When I open up a game to play on Steam, I have a habit of looking over the list of games recommended to me first before I play. Sometimes a game will be added to my wishlist (in gog if possible), or if it's a free game, it might get added right there to the backlog list. This would be one of those times as the trailer simply looked awesome. The stars aligned, and when I got to play it, I can truly call this a hidden gem of a game.

Meteor 60 Seconds! (PC) Review

title

Sometimes, you just have to follow your curiosity. This game showed up in games recommended to me, and while I could tell it was going to be a very lean and simple game, I couldn’t resist finding out how my last minute would be spent. As such, I added it to my games to play for the bargain price of “free.” Now that I’ve played it, I can’t say that was a bad decision.

Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist (PC) Review

title

This is a game that came to my backlog quite randomly. At least once a week, I try to go through the list of games Steam wants to recommend, and this one charmed me. Between the writer having done The Stanley Parable, the trailer being just a touch bizarre, and description that was half written before the writer Tina just quit and left, I was intrigued. So I added it to my backlog on the spot.

So when a game I’m trying to complete became unplayable yesterday (online game that as I type this still seems to be under a DDOS attack), I decided I would open something new… and the dice chose this. They did not choose poorly.

Close Your Eyes (PC) Review

There are times curiosity and a cool theme gets the best of you. This would be one of those times for me. When I saw the first trailer, I saw the potential for something interesting to be hiding behind the artwork it showed off, which wasn’t that bad, if done in what looked like crayons. And with it being a free game, there was no reason I should not add it to my list of games. And now for Halloween, the random selection brought it to the forefront. How could I refuse?

Overload Teaser Trailer (PC) Preview

20160308214849_1

When I went to bed last night, I fully expected tonight I would be installing and playing a little PC title known as Crusader Kings II, and considering the chaos you can create in this title, I was rather excited. So why has none of this happened yet? Because our new best friends at Revival gave us something amazing to get even more hyped up for, a teaser demo of their upcoming game Overload.

Guild Wars 2 goes Free... kinda...

Well the day has arrived. Many people have been saying that Guild Wars 2 will eventually become a free-to-play game simply because that's the only way any new MMO survives. However, when it takes 3 years to do this, I really do have to wonder how much satisfaction these people can have in "being right." But it has come to pass as yesterday a news article announced that effective immediately, Guild Wars 2 no longer requires you to buy the game before you can play it.

Among the Sleep: Prologue (PC) Review

Sometimes a developer surprises you… for good or for bad. In this case, I was pleasantly surprised. When the original game came out, I was excited and wanted to play it as soon as I could. I walked away happy, but wanting more. Now there is more, and I had to come back to play it. Step in side with caution, however. This review is written like the expansion: assuming you played the original Among the Sleep. If you have, you are in for a nice little additional romp. If you are not, this review could be very SPOILERRIFFIC and I want to urge you to read the original review and consider the game based on that. You have been warned.
