Extra Life Raffle is Dead.

Well, it was fun while it lasted, and we did plan to do it again, but…. that can not happen anymore. Changes Valve has made to the Steam Gift system have just rendered our yearly raffle impossible.

Extra Life Update: Goals and Games

It’s been a few months since my last update for Extra Life, but that also means there has been some time for new (and excellent) developements! First and foremost, if you look to the thermometer, you will notice our goal now stands at $300. We smashed through $200 this week and are already withing striking distance of bringing this new goal to the kids who need it most. I can not thank you enough for helping us along as far as you have, but we would love to bring more to the table for the kids. Last year we were able to break $600, and we would love to do it again. We still have a few months, but of course anything you can or want to bring to this cause is more then welcome.

Our team page is readily on-hand by clicking that same thermometer, and clicking the roster will let you choose who on the team you want to donate under and by proxy, what hospital you specifically want your donation to go to (each team member’s page has it listed). The entire thing is run by the Children’s Miracle Network directly, so neither you nor we have to worry about who’s hands the money goes through.

But of course, this wouldn’t be a Red Sector Extra Life if we weren’t giving away games with this, would it. I’ll admit, I’ve kinda gotten hooked on this part of the event as strongly as everything else, and we do have more to offer then even our last update. Please step inside to see what’s going on.

Extra Life Update: The Raffle Gets Bigger

As time goes on, I hope to release a lot more posts like this one. After all, I've had a lot of fun being able to do give-aways on the big night, and this year will be no exception. If anything, it's going to be more personal, as I have made a few changes in how I'm picking these titles... so come on in, take a load off, and let's see what we will be giving someone on the big night.

Extra Life 2016 date announced and more

I'm not going to hide it behind the cut. This recently, a fellow ExtraLifer informed me of the official date of Extra Life 2016 while watching their twitch stream. (In case you are reading this, thank you, Zyaldar.) We are officially starting a 25 hour this year, and it all happens on November 5th and we will be playing right there with everyone else. Currently, the exact plans of that night are obviously going to be very up in the air as we have almost a whole year to plan it out. It's even completely likely that our location will be different as a few friends have already shown interest in hosting the marathon this year. But the details there will come clearer as the year progresses.

Extra Life Begins!

In mere hours, the big marathon is about to begin. As mentioned in several previous articles, today we begin Extra Life, a gaming marathon to help sick children around the world. As we get ready in the final hours, I have to once again say we are honored to be a part of this, and it’s still not too late to either donate to the cause OR enter into the raffle we are hold of Steam Games. If you haven’t donated yet to this event, you can do so by clicking the thermometer on the right of this site, selecting the member you want to donate to and clicking the donate button. This one is going to be a but quicker then previous updates, but with news this good, I couldn't just say nothing. Friends, we are officially heading for yet another record breaking year!

Extra Life Update II

Extra Life 2015 draws ever nearer and with it, one of our best chances we as a global community of gamers has all year to do some real good for those who really need it. And we here at the Red Sector could not be more excited. This will be the first time we will be having a live gathering of between members of the site and friends who are ready to spend the night to eat, drink, and game to raise what we can for those who need it most. But I am getting ahead of myself.

Like I have said previously, Extra Life is a fund-raising event in which gamers from around the globe do their best to bring in as much as they can for the various hospitals of the Children's Miracle Network, and finish the drive with a 24 hour gaming marathon, many of which stream for their sponsors and fellow gamers to join them in celebrating just what this community is capable of doing for those around us, and here at the Red Sector, we welcome you to join us.

Extra Life 2015 Update I

On November 7th, gamers around the world will unite to help beat back childhood diseases, and we will all need your help to do it, so I'm hoping you all keep the big day free. As per our usual, Red Sector will be taking part in the big event called Extra Life, and just as last year we will still need your help to do it. We have a few big updates to the night I want to share with you all, involving how you can help, updates to the raffle we have planned, and even the start of the plans for the night, so please... step inside.

Extra Life 2015

Yes indeed, it’s time again to announce our participation in Extra Life once more! If you’ve been with us since the beginning, you know we have been Extra Lifers since this site was founded, and if you are a friend of mine personally, you know I’ve been one since it was founded by Doc of Sarcastic Gamer fame. Back then, it was touching to be part of such an endeavor, but over the years, it has only grown and become humbling as well.

But for those of you who have not felt the touch of this awe-inspiring event, what is Extra Life? Come on in and have a read about one of the best things I have ever had the honor of getting involved with as a gamer.

Extra Life Update: 10/23/2014

Well, Extra Life is now coming up fast as this Saturday gamers the world over will be playing for the kids, having a great time as we do what we do best in their names, honor, and to help them in their times of need. And so far, we are doing an incredible job!

Extra Life Updates 10/4/14

We are now in the final lap for Extra Life 2014, and things are moving for the event with as much momentum as we could collectively hope for! For starters, Extra Life has now broken the big $1,000,000 barrier on October 1st. According the entries on Extra LIfe’s facebook page, this is double the speed we reached this barrier last year… and last year we broke records with a grand total of over $4,000,000 raised for the hospitals who will help kids with serious illnesses and injuries. Since then the donations have continued to roll in and as I type this, we are now at $1,116,022 according to the official Extra Life page. And we still have 20 days to go!

Extra Life Updates: 8/23/14

October 26th is quickly coming up, and with it the big gaming marathon to support sick kids around the world, and it’s time to ramp up our efforts. So far as a community, we have raised $411,340 and we still have 2 months to go. And of course I'm going to encourage you to join us that day and donate to the cause. Extra Life Update: 6/8/14

As time ticks on, Extra Life will only slowly make it’s way here. Remember, on October 25th at 8 AM, the real event begins, and the gamers take to the net raise money and help sick children around the globe in a no-holds-bar 24-hour gaming marathon. All kinds of games will be played and enjoyed while all kinds of cash is raised to help these children.

While this year got off to an early start, we are right now at the point in the year when traditionally the date would be announced and the Extra Life website would have gone up for the new event. With this in mind, the cause has gotten a head start, as we have now collectively raised over $183,000. But there is still a long way to go, and we at the Red Sector want to do our part.

To this end, if you have been with the site for a while, you know we are running a raffle for steam games based on donations to our page. If not, well, this is your chance to find out! Come on in and see the details!

Extra Life Raffle

 

A month and a half has come and gone since we announced we are taking part in Extra Life, and we are as resolute as ever. And while we understand October is a LONG way away, as a gaming community we are off to a terrific start, already having raised over $125,000.

As proud gamers ourselves, we want to help in any way we can and that is why we back then we announced we are raffling off ten Steam games for donations to our Extra Life team page. Well, it seems this early on, we will have to sweeten the pot a little, and so we shall, as we add 3 additional titles to the bundle up for grabs. Remember, to enter all you need to do is donate to our team page. You can get to this page by clicking this link or the thermometer on the side of this very page. Doing so not only gets you a chance to get the whole collection of titles we have waiting, but it will also help the kids for who we are taking part in Extra Life to begin with.

It’s Extra Life Season: Let the Raffle Begin!

Yes, we are holding another raffle for Extra Life. This time, however, we have learned from our mistakes and are changing the game a little bit, starting with our announcement. Rather then make one a few weeks AFTER the big event, we are starting one now, well before it. And the games up for raffle are only going to grow as over time I will be adding titles here and there. Gamenight Cancelled

Unfortunately, we have to do this, and said as much on the facebook page. This morning, I found out about events going on that have have made this weekend no longer available for a gaming night. And since we have not received any donations we can count as raffle entries, this also means the raffle has been called off. Instead, we will take the games (both mentioned and unmentioned in previous posts) and lock them away until next year’s Extra Life events, where we will start a raffle well before the big night.

Sorry to anyone who was looking forward to this, but since we neither got the participation and now personal affairs will likely keep me too busy this weekend to actually run the gaming night side, this is how it has to be.

2 Weeks till we have our Raffle And oh Yeah… Persona 5 is Announced

A lot of excitement in the air this morning! First and most direct to the site, our Extra Life Raffle is in 2 weeks. Yes, the main event has come and gone, but we will be having a gamer night on Dec 7th, during which we will be having a LIVE raffle based on donations made to our Extra Life page. Read on for more:

Extra Life Last Minute Raffle GameNight!

UPDATE (11/17/13): As of this morning, the $4,000,000 mark has been met! This event is still on and we ask anyone interested to donate, but congratulations to the Extra Life charity! As of now the total is double last year! Let's see just how far we can take this!

If you have been following us on our facebook page, you already knew we were planning to do this. But for those who did not, we are simply not done with Extra Life this year. With the goal of $4,000,000 raised this year in not just striking distance, but casually swatting distance, we wanted to step up and do something extra cool for the event. To this end, we will be streaming one more gamer day, and while this is not a 24-hour marathon, we will be raffling off a prize or two. Interested? Read on for more details.
