We are now in the final lap for Extra Life 2014, and things are moving for the event with as much momentum as we could collectively hope for! For starters, Extra Life has now broken the big $1,000,000 barrier on October 1st. According the entries on Extra LIfe’s facebook page, this is double the speed we reached this barrier last year… and last year we broke records with a grand total of over $4,000,000 raised for the hospitals who will help kids with serious illnesses and injuries. Since then the donations have continued to roll in and as I type this, we are now at $1,116,022 according to the official Extra Life page. And we still have 20 days to go!
But more is going on behind the scenes in addition to the tremendous achievements already funded to the hospitals in the Children’s Miracle Network so far. For those on the fence about joining up and playing with us all on October 25th (or whatever raindate you need for this), we now have partners with Extra Life who have stepped up to reward the gamers who are getting donations to help these kids. Currently, Dungeons & Dragons, Waystone Games, Onlive, Ubisoft, and even Gibson are stepping up to give away awards for gamers signed up to Extra Life for the donations they individually brought to the table, so there is simply no better time then now to get yourself signed up and show the world just how much good you can do right here with your fellow gamers! To keep up with these events as well as see stories that matter to gamers, follow the Extra Life blog.
But if you can’t play, you can still donate to help us all out. We here at the Red Sector would be honored to accept your help on behalf of the Baystate Children’s Hospital, though it is possible I may drag a few others into the team who will play for other hospitals as well before this is up. But we felt we wanted to give a little something back to those who wanted to give to this great cause through our team page, and during the marathon on October 25th, we will be giving away several steam games to one of our donators, chosen by dice roll live over the twitch stream we will run of the entire event.
How we plan to do this is fairly simple. Right now we are asking our readers and anyone interested to donate to our team on Extra Life and help us help this hospital help the kids in need, and if you donate $5 or more, please make sure we can see your email. Every $5 rounded down will be included as an entry for this raffle.
Then when the night comes, we will roll the dice (how we choose to do this will depend on how many entries we get) live on twitch to pick who wins the raffle, and we will then send the games to the email address we received for the winning donation. That’s all there is to it. Donating is easy:
- Follow this link or click on the thermometer on the right side of this page to get to the Red Sector donation page.
- Click on Roster to see the Team Members page.
- Click the name of the team member you wish to assist.
- Click the Support Me button on the team member’s profile.
- Fill in all the required information for the donation and make sure you have the checkbox for “Allow participant to see my e-mail address” checked off with a valid email address supplied.
That’s it. As mentioned above, every $5 you donate rounded down will count as an entry for the raffle, and if you win when we roll to give away the games, you will receive them via a steam message from me to that email.
As for what you can win, I am sitting on 16 games in my steam inventory right now that are all going out. Please note, these are US release versions of all these games, so please keep that in mind.:
- The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures
- Avernum: Escape from the Pit
- Breath of Death VII
- Cthulhu Saves the World
- Damned
- Doorways Chapter 1 and 2
- The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing
- Master Reboot
- Paranormal
- ShadowRun Returns
- The Ship
- The Stanley Parable
- Strike Suit Zero
- Talisman: Digital Edition
- Talisman Prologue
- Unpiec
Right now I can say happily that I will be able to give these away and say thank you to someone who donates to this worthy cause through our team. I thank you all, both now for helping us and for letting me show how thankful I am to you all.
Once again thank you for your help. On our, the Extra Life team’s, The Children’s Miracle Network’s, and all the kids we are going to help together as one gaming community’s behalf, thank you so much.
