As per my tradition, every weekend I pick a game from my backlog and show it off as something you might see on Extra Life. It's a variety hour to help sick kids if you will, and something I have continued to do for years now. But a backlog is a dangerous thing, and sometimes you show off gold, others you show of crap. This time we showed off (and in a single session finished)... a game. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either... and it definitely lived on it's atmosphere FAR more than anything else, which in it's own was actually really good. But was it enough? Step inside.
Pony Island (PC) Review
Once again we have a game that's been hanging around in my backlog for a long time. In this case, it was a game that was on my radar when it launched, but actually came to me as part of a HumbleBundle back when I was subscribed. It would sit unused in the backlog for years until the dice decided it's time had come. So like the old arcade in the game itself, it's time to dust off the cabinet and click power...
In Sound Mind (PC) Review
I walked into this game with mixed feelings. On the one hand, I had attempted to play the demo way back before it came out during one of Steam's Indie-fests and found a lot to complain about, particularly around he controls. But on the other, I was trying to play it on my media center with a controller, an interface I am not particularly happy playing first person games on in the first place and a PC that was woe-fully underpowered for it. Add to this that it was an early build being shown off and I knew I wasn't being fair to it. So when Epic gave the game away as a freebie a little ways ago, I decided to give it a second shot and pick it up. And then the dice picked it, so I shrugged, put my concerns aside and downloaded it. I'm glad I did.
Implements of Hell (PC) Review
I usually make a point to pick up the cheaper games on my wishlist when the Steam Summer sale comes along and this was one of those games on sale for about as much as I might have spent in my childhood playing a few rounds at the arcades, only to put it in the backlog and forget about it. But the dice didn't forget and only a few short months later, brought it up front and center. I'm glad it did as this game pleasantly surprised me. I figured it would be interesting, but it genuinely was a creepy little experience.
Eight (PC) Review
There is something to be said for bad games. Occasionally playing one will make you appreciate the good ones even more. I can agree with that and from time to time, can look at something I played and while it isn't good it reminds me just how good other games were. I could point to several games I reviewed on this site that apply here, thinking fondly of games that just did what they tried better. This... this was a bridge too far and is arguably one of the worst games I have ever played this side of it not being straight up broken. Avoid this game at all costs.
Nevermind (PC) Review
It has finally happened! It took three damn games about traversing minds themselves but I finally found one not afraid to be dark and sinister with it! Have fun with this one!
Lurk in the Dark: Prologue (PC) Review
When I saw this game in Steam's recommendations for me, I was intrigued. Since it was free, I decided "why not" and added it to the list. Now that I've played it, I just might have more faith in Steam's recommendations. I have not played a horror game this good in a LONG time.
