Team Kirby Clash Deluxe (3DS) Review

I’m going to say it here and now. I was excited for this game when it was announced. Unfortunately, I missed Kirby’s Return to Dreamland which was meant to be a multiplayer game on the Wii, and foolishly I believed Team Kirby Clash Deluxe was going to be based on it. Sure I expected the game to require purchases, but I was thinking like they had done with Fatal Frame V where the first part was free and if you wanted to continue you would buy the rest as DLC (potentially as multiple episodes). And while the first expectation being smashed is not necessarily a bad thing (a different game can still be a good one), this game destroys the second one in horrific form, defining the very issue people have with Mobile F2P games.

In fact it does so enough my patients have been pushed beyond finishing it. I write this tonight as I put the game down for the final time having barely gotten through 3 hours of gametime (according to my 3DS) before the foul taste of pay-wall after pay-wall after pay-wall this game contains just ruined my will to keep going. For the first time since setting my standards, I have been driven by a game to break them, not by a game-ending bug, but by a microtransaction system I personally find too egregious to continue.

Marvel Heroes 2015 (PC) Review

Marvel Heroes title source

I remember watching for this game as news hit that Marvel was making an MMO. At the time Diablo 3 was still new and the controversy of needing to be online all the time and the Live Auction House were fresh, hot, and scalding. You either loved the game or hated it, and usually all the hate came from these two issues combined. So obviously with half the people who bought the game seriously upset with it, the search for alternative Diablo-style games was on. At the time, I was interested in this title, if only because I could imagine what an Isometric RPG could do with that universe. But at the same time, I don’t do betas much anymore. You could say between Transformers Universe and Darkspore, I’ve been let down way too hard just in how they ran, so I generally wait for the full game now. As such, this game fell to the wayside for a while.

When I did play, I decided I was going to run with Black Panther, and did for about a week. At that point, I found out one of my all-time favorite characters were being added to the game: Venom. And with that I walked away. You see, I was really very early in the story line when this happened, and I wasn’t walking away disappointed. I was walking away with a promise to myself to return when Venom was available and I could play through the game as a new experience from Symbiotic eyes. We have not been disappointed….

Path of Exile (PC) Review

2013-11-07_00001

When I saw this game in beta, it had my attention. The skill tree alone had my attention and my curiosity due to it’s size. However, I generally do not like to play betas these days. I had my fill of the games going online/offline at will to be patched and fixed and the server-wipes removing my character in the process from Darkspore alone. So when this game officially launched, I knew I was diving in. It had been a while since I played a good ARPG, and a game that promised to be one without costing a cent was simply something I had to see for myself. I think I can safely say, believe the hype about this one and get ready for a good time.

Cry of Fear (PC) Review

2013-05-14_00002
This simply looked amazing. The trailers had my attention and with it being free, I knew I was going to play this game from the first day I saw it. It also wasted no time in showing me why this was a great choice to play. But that is not to say that everything was great here. In fact, this game held a very dark secret which I must now warn you about. A great game released broken, is still a broken game, and for this reason, I must warn people about Cry of Fear before they take it up.
